DishLoc makes it easy to find the best location to set up your satellite dish by displaying your favourite satellites overlaying the camera view! This augmented reality view makes it easy to see if there any obstructions in the way, like telephone poles, trees, or even mountains. If you don't have a built-in compass, or if your built-in compass isn't accurate enough for you, you can place a reference pin on a visible landmark in google maps view, and align it in your augmented view for even more accurate results!
For 3.0, we've made DishLoc more usable for your iOS devices by adding additional easy-to-configure favourites lists, showing a virtual view if you don't have a built-in camera, and allowing you to hold your device in any orientation in augmented/virtual view mode!
All iPhones and iPod Touches are supported, but functionality is limited by the iOS device's built-in capabilities. Only devices with built-in compass's will automatically align to the correct direction. If your device doesn't have one, or if you don't want to use the built-in compass, you can adjust the compass manually. If your device doesn't have a camera, you will get a virtual view instead of an augmented view. DishLoc uses whatever form of GPS your iOS device has to get your location.
We've made DishLoc as simple to use as possible: Tap 'Detect Location' to use your device's GPS to find your location. Set up your favourites lists by scrolling left and right on the satellite lists, searching, and adding/removing the satellites you are interested in. Tap 'Google Maps Satellite View' to verify/fine tune your location, and see a birds eye view of your location and what direction your satellites are in. Finally, Tap 'Augmented Satellite View' or 'Virtual Satellite View' to get the augmented/virtual view of the satellites. You can manually turn on/off the compass and clarke belt, and choose between favourites lists in this view as well.
Please note that this application is to give you an idea of the feasibility of locating a satellite dish in a given location. It is by no means 100% accurate, since each iPhone has different accuracy in terms of accelerometers and heading sensors.
Also note that we do not receive notices of feedback on any of the Apple stores, so if there are options, features, satellites, or bugs fixed, please use the feedback form on our site. Customer satisfaction is our top priority!
